Friday Freebies: Saluting veterans

Take your family to honor the men and women who have served in the armed forces at one of these DFW area events:

Veterans Day Parade: Veterans of the war in Iraq will be special honorees in the parade, which is put on by the Tarrant County Veterans Council.
Recommended ages: All
When: 10:30 a.m., Saturday, November 10
Where: The parade will begin at LaGrave Field, heads through downtown Fort Worth before going back to LaGrave Field.

Frisco Community Parade: The parade, which honors veterans and local heroes, features floats, school marching bands, high school football teams, cheerleaders, scouts, civic organizations, youth sports teams, Frisco-based professional sports teams and local businesses. Come early, bring your chairs and stake your claim to sidewalk space.
Good to know: Proceeds from the parade entry fees support student scholarships distributed through the Frisco Education Foundation.

Where: Parade starts at the southeast corner of FC Dallas Stadium and goes eastbound down Main Street to downtown Frisco

Veterans Day Celebration: The ceremony will include an aircraft flyover, bagpipes and a 21-gun salute.
Good to know: Refreshments will be provided following the ceremony at the Veterans Park Event Center next to the memorial.

Veterans Day Program:  The Veterans Affairs Department and the Texas National Cemetery Foundation will host this program at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery.

A Salute to Our Veterans: The program will include a tribute to veterans by Retired General Terrence Dake, USMC and a formal color guard. Veterans from World War II, Korea, Vietnam and current conflicts will share their stories from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. The Military Museum of Ft. Worth will have a display of authentic military uniforms & memorabilia, which will be open to the public at 1 p.m.

Dallas Veterans Day Parade: Show your appreciation to the military veterans of all of our nation’s armed forces. This year's theme is "Honoring the Doolittle Raid."
Good to know: Military vehicles and equipment, veterans organizations, civic and corporate displays will be available for viewing at 9:30 a.m. in front of City Hall and will be dismantled after the parade.
