Duncanville defense denies Mansfield Timberview

A

DUNCANVILLE -- A game that meant nothing for playoff seeding turned into something very interesting between Duncanville and Mansfield Timberview at Panther Stadium Thursday night.

Duncanville rallied in the second half to beat Timberview 18-8, thanks to some crazy plays by both sides.

Duncanville (4-6, 3-4 District 7-5A) sealed the game by holding Timberview (3-7, 2-5) on fourth-and-11 with 3:12 left, leading 12-6.

However, neither team was finished scoring.

Two plays after the turnover on downs, Duncanville running back Jaquan Cole burst through the middle of the Timberview defense for a 38-yard touchdown run. On a try for 2, Cole had the ball stripped and returned 95 yards by Chad Vasquez for Timberview's final points.

It was not the only point-after returned by the defense. After the first score of the game, a 1-yard pass from Avery Gilbert to Damian Walker Jr., Timberview's point-after kick was blocked by Del Washington and returned for two by Tre Harris.

Duncanville broke a defensive stalemate late in the third quarter on Derrell Haynes' 2-yard touchdown run. The Panthers recovered a fumble on the ensuing kickoff and turned it into a 24-yard field goal by Edy Lira, making the score 12-6 as the third quarter ended.
