Arlington's City Council members seem indifferent to their constituents' wishes related to giant recycling barrels.

Recycling is a mind-set and individual choice. If people don't recycle now, it's doubtful that a giant unmanageable barrel on wheels will encourage participation.

Why fix what's not broken? Many questions remain unanswered. Will the men currently picking up our bins lose their jobs? What happens if residents boycott the barrels, will the landfill still be saved? What's the plan if that happens?

Is it really about generating revenue? Who is liable for damage from barrels left in the streets? Why weren't we allowed to vote on this?

Arlington claims aesthetics is very important. Nothing will enhance the aesthetics of our neighborhoods like 20 to 30 giant drums lying in a street. Praise those on the council who voted against this, and remember those who didn't at election time.

Sometimes, personal agendas are sold under the guise of improving services. Remember this when Arlington forbids trash bags and we're forced, against our wishes, to pay for giant trash barrels.
