FORT WORTH -- A woman searching for her boyfriend after he failed to come home Wednesday night discovered the body of a dead man in the bed of his pickup in an industrial area of southeast Fort Worth Thursday morning.

"After driving around the area for several hours, she located his pickup truck," said Sgt. Pedro Criado, a police spokesman. "She discovered a deceased male in the back of that pickup truck."

Police were awaiting positive identification by the Tarrant County medical examiner's office to determine if the dead man is the woman's boyfriend, police said.

The discovery was made around 9 a.m. in the 5200 block of Mosson Road, just west of East Loop 820 South and south of Sun Valley Road.

Marc Mitchell, an employee at the nearby K9 Truck Services, said he had spotted the silver pickup parked in the grass when he arrived at work shortly before 6 a.m. but thought nothing of it. Construction workers arriving at Westhill Construction Inc. frequently park along the street until the company's gate is opened.

But while working on a semi-truck between 8:30 and 9 a.m., Mitchell said he heard a woman's scream.

"With the motor running and everything I heard this blood-curdling scream," he said. "Something you hear ... like on horror movies."

Mitchell said when he went outside to investigate, he saw police, an ambulance and fire truck.

"I was trying to see if they could move so we could get our truck back on the road," Mitchell said. "That's when I saw one of the firemen lift a hand up out of the back of the truck."

Criado said the deceased man had obvious trauma to his body but that the medical examiner would determine his cause of death.

He said workers interviewed by homicide detectives had reported seeing the truck parked there Wednesday night.
