DALLAS -- Police and federal agents arrested seven members of a gang suspected of funneling methamphetamine and other drugs from Mexico to Dallas-Fort Worth, the U.S. attorney's office reported.
The seven were arrested Monday in raids by Dallas police and FBI agents that also seized meth, cash, guns and vehicles, according to a news release.The suspects, all of Dallas, are Tony Hernandez, 29; Roberto Vasquez, 20; Agne Vasquez, 28; Miguel Quintero, 19; Johnny Angel Gamez, 20; Sergio Piccaso-Neito; and Maria Reyna Vasquez, 44.Officials said the case began in 2007 when the federal agents and Dallas police started investigating meth and cocaine trafficking. The investigation involved numerous undercover drug purchases and court-ordered wiretaps.Officials said Tony Hernandez took over the gang after his brother, Gonzalo Hernandez, was killed by the Zetas drug cartel.On Monday, according to the news release, an FBI undercover agent met Quintero, who delivered 1 kilogram of meth for $22,500. The arrests followed, officials said.In Houston, a Mexican national was sentenced to life in federal prison for running a large-scale smuggling operation that moved meth and other drugs from Mexico to Houston, the U.S. attorney's office said.Rigoberto Munoz-Vargas, 38, was sentenced Tuesday after pleading guilty to possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine and being an illegal immigrant with a firearm.Have more to add?
