Argyle High School's band captured its third consecutive victory Monday at the state marching band contest in San Antonio.

The Argyle Eagles band also took first place in 2008 and 2010, the last time bands from the UIL's Class 3A competed at state.

The Fredricksburg High School band placed second, and third place went to Burnet High.

When Argyle was in Class 2A, it also won state championships in 2003 and 2005.

Bands from 21 Texas high schools, including Springtown High, Kennedale High and Castleberry High, competed at the Alamodome on Monday. Bands that finished in the top 10 during preliminaries competed Monday night in the finals.

Springtown's band was ranked 10th after the finals round.

Kennedale came in 12th and Castleberry was ranked 18th in the first round, according to the UIL's website.

Today, bands from 38 high schools in Class 5A will compete. The contest features rivals Flower Mound Marcus, which won its third consecutive title in 2010, and Hurst L.D Bell, which came in second in 2008 and 2010. L.D. Bell won in 2000 and 2004.

Birdville's Richland High School and three bands from the Keller school district -- Keller, Central and Fossil Ridge -- are also scheduled to compete today.

Next year, bands from Classes 1A, 2A and 4A will compete.
