After Josh Boyce took a Trevone Boykin pass for a 94-yard touchdown to tie the game and force overtime with 1:28 remaining in the fourth quarter, the two connected for the game-winning two-point conversion.

Sophomore receiver Brandon Carter, a high school quarterback at Euless Trinity, threw to Corey Fuller for the 25-yard touchdown in the second overtime period.

In the first overtime period, neither team was able to score when Arlington Martin grad Jaden Oberkrom missed a 37-yard field goal attempt and Jason Verrett blocked Tyler Bitancurt’s 36-yard attempt for the Mountaineers. Bitancurt missed three long field goal attempts earlier, making just one from a distance of 52 yards.

That field goal had extended West Virginia’s lead to 24-14 early in the second half, but the Horned Frogs came back to tie the game early in the fourth quarter with a field goal after Dominic Merka returned a fumble on Bitancurt’s punt attempt for a touchdown.

The Mountaineers regained the lead when Tavon Austin returned a punt 76 yards for a touchdown with 3:19 but the Frogs quickly responded with Boyce’s 94-yard touchdown.

WVU quarterback Geno Smith was 32-of-54 passing for 260 yards with three touchdowns and one interception while Boykin was 12-of-29 for 254 yards with two touchdowns and an interception. Boyce was Boykin’s primary target, with 180 yards and two scores on six catches.

With the win, the Frogs reach the threshold of bowl eligibility, improving to 6-3 overall and 3-3 in the Big 12. TCU will host conference-leading No. 2 Kansas State next Saturday. West Virginia (5-3, 2-3) travels to Oklahoma State.
