Down a game point in the second and third sets, the Arlington Colts (36-12) relied on their playoff experience and fought back both times for a straight-sets victory, 25-19, 30-28, 27-25 against San Angelo Central in a Class 5A area-round match in Eastland.
"We just stayed confident in our abilities, calm, and believed that we were going to execute our game and win," Arlington coach Kim Tipton-Spencer said.
The Colts' Kate Granger had 19 kills and 19 digs. Kathlyn Risenhoover had 18 assists and seven digs.
Aledo d. Denton 25-10, 25-12, 25-13: The Bearcats (37-5) had 16 service aces in a rout of the Broncos (24-18) in a 4A area round match at Brewer High School.
"I just really liked the way we came out and served aggressive," Aledo coach Kathy Goings said. "That seemed to knock them off their game."
Southlake Carroll d. Amarillo Tascosa 25-17, 25-14, 25-12: The Dragons (46-3) dispatched the Rebels (26-15) in a 5A area-round match in Vernon.
"After being knocked out of the playoffs in this same round last year, our team was very focused on getting out on the court and putting the disappointment of last year behind us," Carroll coach Arthur Stanfield said.
Cat McCoy had 19 digs, while Maddie McCollough had 17 assists. Carroll extended its winning streak to 26 games.
