Cheers: To Nelson Cruz for his gift of an all-terrain fire truck for his home town in the Dominican Republic. He displays an exceptional quality for the Rangers as well as his humanitarian quality and character. Bravo!

-- Jim Sanderson, Fort Worth

Cheers: To Jim Lehrer. Jeers to moderators who control presidential debates with biased questioning.

-- Don Ponder, Fort Worth

Cheers: To a Ms. Pittman with the Social Security Administration in Fort Worth. I was needing to get my Medicare Part B coverage quickly in order to get an Advantage plan. She worked extra hard to get my coverage so I wouldn't be without and even called twice to update me.

-- Randy Burke,

North Richland Hills

Jeers: To the mosquito fighters who had not one word about our native martins. One of these adult birds will eat 2,000 mosquitoes in a day. The city should build and maintain martin houses in all parks and educate the public to do likewise.

-- Warren M. Lynn, Fort Worth

Cheers: To Dr. David Parmer, who removed my kids' wisdom teeth with as little discomfort as possible. Cheers also to his office manager, Becky, who immediately mailed us a refund when it was discovered that we had overpaid; we appreciate getting the refund so promptly.

-- Laura Marble, Fort Worth

Cheers: To Randy Ford for hosting the Texas Rangers Women's Club's end-of-the-year event at J. Gilligans. His continued support for Arlington and surrounding communities is generous and appreciated. Thanks to his wonderful staff for accommodating more than 90 women with great food and exceptional service.

-- Sandra Rateau, Arlington

Cheers: For your article on "Lockheed's Grand Prairie unit to be headed by VP," but it had one glaring error. You said Lockheed "has significant manufacturing operations at Lufkin and in Pine Bluff, Ark." It's should have said, "Camden, Ark." Good job otherwise!

-- Starweista Jacobsen,

Arlington

Jeers: To the Star-Telegram. Why is it that I finished reading an opinion piece in the print version of the paper, but it was nowhere to be found online? I wanted to "comment" about Bill King's hypothesis but could not find his article in the opinion section. The online version is way too complicated!

-- Tom Smusz, Brock

Cheers: To the Angels of Christ Praise Team on its excellent performance during the Sharp-Jones-Barnes Family Reunion -- Charles, Ted Jr., Shirley, Barry, Lonell, Carolyn, Danny, Michael, Jerry, Rosa, Vernon, Hazel, Lovell, W.C. We thank all of you.

-- Emma M. Sharp, Fort Worth

Jeers: To Fox "Nuis-ance," where their loyal lemmings go to reinforce their prejudice and are constantly fed biased misinformation and learn how to suppress voters' rights. The decline began in 1987 when Reagan's FCC abolished the "Fairness Doctrine." Now this and SuperPACS are major threats to our democracy.

-- Danny McCoy, Arlington

Jeers: To Britney Spears saying, in tribute to Whitney Houston, "I think she's amazing. And I think her voice is better than God." (See: "Grammy organizers tape a salute to Whitney Houston," Oct. 13)

-- George J. Anthony,

Fort Worth

Cheers: To Hurst Police and Christy Province for their vacation watch. It is a comfort knowing your house is checked while you are gone. This is only one of their services for the people of Hurst. Many thanks.

-- Marcy Davis, Hurst

Cheers: To the manager and staff at the Discount Tire Co. on North Green Oaks Boulevard in Arlington. They not only checked the air in my tires last week and did not charge me but were also courteous and professional to this senior citizen and invited me back. Thanks, guys.

-- H. E. Moore, Arlington

Jeers: To the associate at a tire company in Arlington who told me I needed to replace a tire with a screw in it and refused to check to see if it was punctured. Cheers to the manager, who checked it and discovered a very short screw that had done no damage.

-- Lee Hickey, Arlington

Cheers: To Ola, third-floor nurse at Plaza Medical Center of Fort Worth, for the genuine care she gives her patients.

-- Mary Crockett, Bedford

Cheers: To the two Mormon gentlemen who helped me finish up at the end of a very long garden project. It had turned dark, and I was very tired. You truly are kind and committed to service.

-- Toni Wietholter, Fort Worth

Cheers: To Rick Sapp, patron services manager at Bass Hall, for his patience and understanding. He made sure we were able to attend a concert for which we had purchased tickets through an online vendor, even though the tickets were not at "will call" as promised.

-- Denise Arnett, Arlington

Cheers: To Tony at Metro Home Theatre. He's truly one-of-a-kind -- knowledgeable, reasonable and honest. Check him out. You will be pleased. (He also designs websites.)

-- Laura Gibbs, Fort Worth

Jeers: To the Star-Telegram for inserting the annoying half sheet into your sports section. Also, a reminder that Texas A&M University is still in the state of Texas and deserves more frequent and detailed articles. Computer reading is not something I do. If it were, I might not need your paper.

-- William McDonough,

Fort Worth

Cheers: To the patrons and employees of Starbucks at North Collins Street and East Lamar Boulevard in Arlington. Your kindness was so much appreciated for your donations of coffee to the teachers and staff of Lamar High School. It certainly helps to get our day started. What a wonderful surprise.

-- Kathy Stanfield, Arlington

Cheers: To Brandon Shumard at MBS Services in Haltom City for prompt service, even when we needed recalls to solve a plumbing problem that I thought would probably be chronic. He was attentive, professional and responsive. Thank you.

-- Paige Hendricks, Fort Worth

Cheers: To Northeast Heat and Air Conditioning in Hurst for very professional and timely work on my air conditioner.

-- W. Carl Lee, Hurst

Jeers: To an Internet provider for bad service and even worse customer service. The company has been paid $328.77 and can't find where they have applied it. They are holding money instead of returning it to the owner when they can't locate the account number.

-- La Tonia Rochelle Luna,

Fort Worth

Jeers: To the Star-Telegram for idolizing weapons of slaughter of wild animals! The Oct. 15 Life and Arts section picturing state-of-the-art hunting equipment was not even deserving of space in the Sports section, where it would have been less offensive. Let's hope killing as a sport will soon become non-acceptable!

-- Peggy Meade-Cohen,

Fort Worth

Cheers: To the man at Albertson's on John T. White Road and Loop 820 Oct. 13 who, when he saw me start to do a climbing act, came from the opposite aisle to retrieve an item I couldn't reach. Obviously, the cross he wore was more than a fashion accessory.

-- Mary-Margaret Belota,

Fort Worth

Cheers: To the Omni Theater for the members-only screening of Space Junk and discounted garage parking. Jeers to the female attendant who refused to honor a parking voucher. We sat 10 minutes behind five other cars waiting to leave the garage.

-- Tuesday L. Peacock,

River Oaks

Jeers: To the Fort Worth Transportation Authority board. By their inaction, the extension to DFW Airport is now delayed to somewhere in 2016. Mayor Price had every reason to admonish them. Because of this lackadaisical attitude, Fort Worth will always play second fiddle to Dallas. What a shame!

-- Robert Taylor, Bedford

Cheers: To Ellerbee's Restaurant for making our birthday dinner so wonderful. The food was delicious, and our waiter, Doug, was fantastic. Thanks to Richard, Molly and Doug for a great night!

-- Ronda and Dean Phillips,

Fort Worth

Cheers: To all employees at Wal-Mart on Farm Road 1187 in Crowley. I have never met a friendlier or more helpful bunch of people. Everyone in the store makes you feel special. No matter what they are doing, they will gladly stop and help with whatever you need. Keep up the good work.

-- Fran Borders, Everman

Cheers: To Patrick, my paper carrier. He is extremely dependable and always early by 4 a.m. He meets my requests regarding paper delivery -- a real good representative for the Star-Telegram.

-- Harold E. Osborn, Fort Worth

Cheers: To our family, friends, neighbors and strangers who supported us and/or offered encouragement as my sister and I trained to climb Mount Rainer. We made it to the summit. Your support was greatly appreciated. Also, cheers to Mountain Sports in Arlington for great customer service.

-- Mary Larson, Arlington

Jeers: To the Fort Worth Police Department for making the East Rosedale Street area so crime-free that officers have nothing better to do than write parking citations to students at Texas Wesleyan University. The female education majors will be sure to park much farther from campus in this crime-free zone.

-- Sara Shipman, Fort Worth
