Twelve hours.
That's how long Texans who want to vote before Tuesday's presidential election have today to cast a ballot.Early voting runs from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. today, capping an early voting period that has seen more than 2.4 million Texans - and more than 315,000 Tarrant County voters - already cast ballots in this year's general election. After today, voters will have one last chance to vote - on Tuesday, Election Day.Voting has slowed down locally and across the state, and election officials are no longer sure that Texas voters will reach or beat the turnout records that were set in the historic 2008 presidential race between Democrat Barack Obama and Republican John McCain."It's definitely a decent turnout," said Steve Raborn, Tarrant County's elections administrator. "But turnout the last couple of days has been kind of flat."My best guess is that so many people had their minds made up and got out early on in the early voting process."But he still encourages Texans to vote today - when they can choose any polling place in the county - over Election Day, when voters are locked into going only to their designated polling place.Four years ago, 66 percent of Tarrant County's registered voters headed to the polls for the presidential race, most casting their ballots early. That year, 431,799 locals voted early in person, 29,798 mailed in ballots, and 173,671 showed up in person on Election Day, records show.Anna M. Tinsley, 817-390-7610Twitter: @annatinsley
