FORT WORTH -- Baylor Surgical Hospital in Fort Worth said Monday that it has bought 5.3 acres near Park Place and Eighth avenues for a $35.1 million, 77,000-square-foot facility to replace its current facility on 12th Avenue near Vickery Boulevard.
Construction is scheduled to begin in May on the three-story surgery center and to be completed in August 2014. Baylor said it has outgrown its 34,000-square-foot building at 750 12th Ave.The new facility will have 30 inpatient beds, 14 operating rooms, a 24-hour emergency room for minor emergencies and an imaging suite equipped with digital X-ray, CT scanner and MRI, Baylor said. It will be nearer the Baylor All Saints Hospital and could create 10 to 15 jobs.It will also offer a broader range of procedures, specializing in orthopedic, spine, pain management, urology, general, plastic, and ear, nose and throat surgery."The project marks the beginning of a new chapter for our hospital system," Roger Rhodes, CEO of Baylor Surgical Hospital at Fort Worth, said in a statement."Health care is rapidly changing and our goal as an industry leader is to remain on the cutting edge of service for our patients, doctors and community."The current facility has 34 beds and private and semiprivate rooms. It will likely be sold, or leased and operated as an ambulatory surgery center, Baylor spokeswoman Susan Hall said.Baylor Surgical Hospital at Fort Worth is a joint venture with the Baylor Health Care System, Dallas-based United Surgical Partners International and local physicians. United Surgical Partners owns or operates 204 facilities in the U.S., including 143 jointly owned with not-for-profit healthcare systems.Todd Burnette, Ryan Matthews and Paul Whitman of Jones Lang LaSalle represented Baylor Surgical Hospital.Gary Vasseur of Coldwell Banker Commercial Searcy Vasseur Group represented the sellers, Melric Inc., which owns Trinkote Industrial Finishes on the property, and John E. Quarles Co., the lumberyard that operates Quarles Window Center on the property.Trinkote is moving to Hood County, Vasseur said.Quarles, which is under contract to sell the 3-acre lumberyard south of Park Place Avenue to an apartment developer, is also moving, but those plans are not known.
