FORT WORTH -- A man who had barricaded himself inside a far west Fort Worth residence was shot early Monday when he emerged from the house carrying several weapons and raised one toward police, according to a police news release.

A teenager called 911 about 11:30 p.m. Sunday saying that his father, who was armed, had locked himself in a bedroom of their house in the 10800 block of Fandor Street.

"When officers arrived, they encountered the 53-year-old white male suspect inside his home holding a firearm," according to a news release from Fort Worth police. "He expressed his desires for police to leave and exhibited behavior that led the officers to believe he was going to use his firearm if they didn't. The officers complied and left the residence."

The man's wife told officers that they had been arguing most of the day and that once "he pointed a handgun at her and the older son," the release stated.

When the man went into another room in the house, a 15-year-old son called 911, and the mother and the two sons left the house.

A SWAT team negotiated with the man, who came out of the house about 4:30 a.m.

"The suspect came to the door armed with several weapons," the news release stated. "He failed to comply with the directions of the officers to put his weapons down and at one point the suspect raised one of the weapons he had in his possession and was shot by SWAT officers."

A "trauma doctor" at the scene treated the man, who was taken to a hospital in serious condition, the news release stated.
