ARLINGTON -- An SUV struck and killed a 20-year-old Arlington man who was reportedly standing on the highway a short time after he crashed his own vehicle late Thursday, police said.

Arlington police responded to a report of a vehicle-pedestrian accident shortly before midnight on the Texas 360 southbound ramp that leads to westbound Interstate 20, police said.

Witnesses said the man was standing in the outside lane of the highway when a Ford Expedition struck him.

The deceased man was identified as Deandre Walker, 20, according to the Tarrant County medical examiner.

While investigating his death, officers discovered that shortly before Walker was killed he had been involved in a one-vehicle crash near the same location, police said. He was taking the ramp onto I-20 when his vehicle left the road and rolled down a grassy embankment.

The driver of the Expedition stopped and is cooperating with the investigation, police said.
