A Durant, Okla. man was shot and killed by Lewisville police Wednesday night after he pointed a gun at officers, a Lewisville police official said Thursday.

The Texas Rangers are investigating the shooting.

Lewisville police identified the man as Roger Preston Hamill, 31. He died at Medical Center of Lewisville shortly after he was shot.

Police were dispatched at about 10:20 p.m. Wednesday to a McDonald's restaurant in the 500 block of E. Round Grove Road in Lewisville on an aggravated assault call.

An employee reported that a man had walked up to a vehicle in the drive-through lane and brandished a gun. He threatened the motorist and then walked away, police said.

Witnesses gave police a description of the suspect's vehicle.

Three officers found a truck that matched the description of the vehicle in the shopping center near the McDonald's.

At some point, a man exited the truck, armed with a handgun, police said.

Officers ordered him to put the weapon down, but instead he raised the handgun and pointed it at the officers, police said.

Officers fired at the suspect.

The names of the officers were not released by police officials. They have been placed on routine administrative leave with pay, said Lewisville police Capt. Kevin Deaver in an email.
