FORT WORTH -- Catching a ride on one of the Fort Worth Transportation Authority's buses will cost more in December after the board approved fare increases Wednesday as part of an effort to maintain services while covering higher costs.
A one-way, full-fare bus ride would be $1.75, up from $1.50, and a day pass would increase to $3.50, up from $3.A weekly local bus pass will increase $2.50 to $17.50, and a monthly local bus pass will go up $10 to $60."It has been five years since The T raised bus fares, which currently cover 12 percent of actual costs," said President Dick Ruddell. "To maintain current service levels and add the capacity to meet this area's growing transit needs, our fares need to keep pace with cost increases."Before making the changes, the T's board's reviewed an evaluation of staff proposals and considered written and oral comments from public meetings, its website, phones and letters.Reduced bus fares for seniors, children and people with disabilities would go up 10 cents to 85 cents.Mobility Impaired Services (MITS), which also have not increased since 2007, would increase 50 cents each way from $2.75 to $3.25 to help offset the significantly higher costs for this individualized service, officials said.Fares will not change for The T's TRE full fare regional day pass and the regional weekly pass; currently they cost $10. But the reduced regional TRE day pass, which was not increased when TRE fares were raised in 2009 and 2010, will increase 50 cents to $2.50.The fares on the T's TRE lines will be the same as those recently approved by DART. TRE regional fares include all TRE zones plus DART rail, and The T's and DART's local and Express bus service. But there are some price reductions in the fare schedules approved by the board Wednesday. The T's TRE 1-Zone fare between CentrePort and T&P stations will be reduced from $3.50 to $2.50 for a two-hour pass and from $7 to $5 for a Day Pass. The TRE 1-Zone fare also includes rides on any of The T's fixed route local and express buses.Max B. Baker, 817-390-7714Twitter: @MaxBBakerHave more to add? News tip? Tell us
