The search resumed Wednesday on Eagle Mountain Lake for a missing 51-year-old man last seen shortly before his 26-foot cabin cruiser was struck by a large wave and sank.

Witnesses told investigators that they believe the man may have swum back into the boat, according to a Tarrant Regional Water District report.

Divers searched the cabin and cockpit area on Sunday but were unable to find him.

"We are still continuing to investigate the circumstances and what may have caused the boat to capsize," said water district spokesman Chad Lorance.

The boat, which carried up to 12 passengers, was struck by the wave southeast of the Fort Worth Boat Club about 5 p.m. Sunday.

The cabin cruiser, which had been sitting idle, accelerated as the wave struck and began to roll to one side and take on water, witnesses said. All of the other passengers got off safely and were rescued by nearby boats.

Lorance said that there were no reports Sunday of any problems with the boat and that officials regularly conduct safety inspections on the lake.

"Our law enforcement officers make between 500 and 600 safety inspections on the lake every year," Lorance said. "There were no reports received on Sunday in relation to this specific vessel."

The boat is resting in about 35 feet of water, and water district officials were still working on a plan to return it to land.

The man's identity has not been released.

Lorance they will continue to search until he is found.
