A 26-year-old man is in jail this morning, accused of breaking into his ex-girlfriend's southwest Fort Worth house and stabbing her new boyfriend as the couple slept.

The victim, 18, was hospitalized in serious but stable condition, said Cpl. Tracey Knight, a Fort Worth police spokeswoman.

The attack was reported about 3:40 a.m.

Jonathan Johnson was arrested after his ex-girlfriend called him and agreed to meet with him at a Fort Worth restaurant. He faces a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

According to a report, Johnson broke into his ex-girlfriend's house in the 2300 block of Creekwood Lane, stabbed the victim in the neck and upper body with a knife taken from the kitchen, then fled.

The ex-girlfriend, who awoke during the attack, was not injured, Knight said.

Knight said two children were also inside the house but uninjured.

About an hour after the stabbing, the ex-girlfriend called Johnson, questioning him about what he was thinking.

"At first he denied it and then he said, 'OK. Let's talk about it. Let's meet at IHOP,'" Knight said.

The girlfriend agreed to the meeting but when Johnson arrived, it was Fort Worth officers he encountered, Knight said.
