Russell Murphy and the Saginaw Rough Riders took a 48-point halftime lead on their way to a 69-0 victory Friday over the Chisholm Trail Rangers at Rough Rider Stadium.
Murphy finished with 228 yards and five touchdowns on seven carries. He broke off touchdown runs of 13, 15, 55, and 57 to help put the game out of reach in the first half. He added a 55-yard touchdown run in the second half.
Saginaw's Jaylen King rushed for 103 yards and a touchdown on four carries, and quarterback Dalton Wachel had a touchdown run on five carries for 54 yards. Wachel completed 5 of 11 passes for 39 yards.
Saginaw (6-0, 4-0 District 6-4A) opened the game with a six-play, 60-yard touchdown drive capped off by Murphy's 15-yard run. King busted off an 88-yard touchdown run to end the first quarter, giving the Rough Riders a 28-0 lead after the team reeled off 286 rushing yards in the first quarter.
Saginaw scored three rushing touchdowns in the second quarter to go up 48-0 at halftime. Chisholm Trail (1-5, 1-3 District 6-4A) was held to 23 yards in the half.
Chisholm Trail opened the second half with two fumbles and registered five plays from scrimmage in the third quarter.
The Rough Riders responded by scoring rushing touchdowns after each fumble.
The Rough Riders extended the lead to 69-0 after Nic Quintanilla poked through the defense. Quintanilla had four carries for 19 yards and a touchdown.
Chisholm Trail, with only freshmen and sophomores, was held to 40 yards. The Rangers posted four first downs compared with Saginaw's 19.
