WEATHERFORD --After some early miscues, Arlington (5-1, 2-1) got its offense in gear to subdue a stubborn Weatherford (1-5, 0-3) team 42-14 in a penalty-marred game at Kangaroo Stadium.
Despite opposite records, Weatherford was close for much of the game.
A mishandled Arlington punt return, one of three for the game, gave the Kangaroos the ball at the Arlington 5-yard line. However, two plays later, the Kangaroos returned the favor, fumbling a pitch during a quarterback option, and Arlington's Jacob Nwangwa pounced on the loose ball at his own 18.
From there, it only took the Colts five plays to reach the end zone, the last a 32-yard pass to Dontha Robinson from Connor Huffman. Arlington scored two more touchdowns for a 20-7 halftime lead. One was a 48-yard run by Raymond Sheard and the other was a 2-yard run by Brandon Washington. The latter came two plays after Robinson returned a punt 36 yards to the Weatherford 17.
Arlington fumbled a punt at its 44 late in the half and the Kangaroos took advantage, with Colton Mallory scoring from the 1.
There were 226 yards in penalties.
