Quarterback's big night sparks Cleburne

A

BURLESON -- Cleburne quarterback Quade Coward was a one-man wrecking crew Friday night as Cleburne blasted Burleson 55-20 in a District 8-4A game at Burleson Stadium.

Coward threw five touchdown passes and ran for two more as the Yellow Jackets (4-2, 3-0) claimed their first victory over Burleson (0-6, 0-3) since 1999 and also earned Cleburne the Silver Spike Trophy.

Burleson had won six consecutive games over Cleburne.

The senior completed 14 of 17 passes for 312 yards. His favorite target was Kameron Pickett, who caught five passes for 141 yards and four touchdowns.

In the first half, Coward threw touchdown passes of 62, 14, 7, 24 and 34 yards to help the Yellow Jackets build a 42-13 halftime lead.

Coward threw for 250 yards in the first half alone.

Burleson made things interesting in the first quarter as the Elks scored on their first two possessions.

Quarterback Isaiah Hall, with help from running back Cody Cornett, engineered a 12-play, 75-yard scoring drive.
