FORT WORTH -- A 24-year-old man has been charged with animal cruelty, accused of killing two of his former employer's dogs by slashing their throats.

William Skyler Leak was apparently upset that he had been fired from his job as a caretaker at some stables in the 4500 block of Anglin Circle and later evicted from a mobile home on the south Fort Worth property, said Sharron Neal, a police spokeswoman.

Investigators believe Leak broke into the stables and cut the dogs' throats with an unknown object, she said.

The dead dogs, described as black and white Border Collie types, were discovered on the morning of Sept. 26.

Neal said a note describing in graphic detail how the dogs were killed was found attached to a bulletin board on the property.

Leak was arrested Friday by Frisco police on two warrants for animal cruelty. He remained in the Tarrant County Jail on Tuesday with bail set at $10,000 on each charge.

Neal said Leak had only been working for the owner for a short time when he was fired in late August.

"The owner didn't like his work performance," Neal said.

Neal said the owner informed Leak that he would have to move out of a mobile home.

"The victim related that the suspect told the victim that he was going to have to evict the suspect to get him to leave the property," Neal said.

She said the owner began the eviction process in the beginning of September.

A witness saw Leak gathering his possessions and leaving the property Sept. 25. The next morning, Neal said, the dogs were discovered dead.

"He had threatened the owner earlier -- that's why they immediately thought that he was the suspect," Neal said.

Neal said Leak confessed to investigators after his arrest. His attorney, Ray Hall Jr., said he received the case Monday and planned to meet with his client today.
