As the election nears, the bloviation is becoming deafening, and it is hard to think, much less remember.

But I remember the last legislative session, when public education became the primary target and our "representatives" either joined in the assault or cowered in silence -- except for state Sen. Wendy Davis. She stood up for us, for our schools, our teachers and most of all for our children and our future.

I remember a Texas when a principled stand against overwhelming odds was worth remembering. I remember a Texas where "walking the walk" was valued more than "squawking the squawk" and being Texan meant something deeper than whether your label was red enough.

In November, we will show what we remember, what we value and whether there are still things about us bigger than our talk.
