Fort Worth Opera revealed today the names of the composers whose works have been selected for participation in the first season of the company's new-works program, "Frontiers," which will make its debut in May 2013. The showcase will present eight unpublished works during the last week of the 2013 Opera Festival.
Selected composers will present their works in 20-minute performances sung by artists in the festival and accompanied by piano. Steven Osgood will conduct the performances, which will be offered in two showcases of four works each, 6-7 p.m. May 9 and 3-4 p.m. May 10."We were incredibly excited at the response to 'Frontiers.' Fort Worth Opera received over 80 submissions to the 'Frontiers' showcase, and the caliber of works submitted was very high," said Darren K. Woods, FWO general director and chairman of the "Frontiers" panel.The operas selected include Airline Icarus, composer Brian Current, librettist Anton Piatigorsky; Why I Live at the P.O., composer Stephen Eddins, co-librettist Michael O'Brien; The Fox and the Pomegranate, composer Matt Frey, librettist Daniel J. Kushner; From the Other Sky, composer/librettist Wang Jie; Jane Eyre, composer Louis Karchin, librettist Diane Osen; The Mortal Thoughts of Lady Macbeth, composer Veronika Krausas, librettist Thomas Pettit; Embedded, composer Patrick Soluri, librettist Deborah Brevoort; and The Summer King, composer Daniel Sonenberg, co-librettist Daniel Nester.Have more to add?
