JOSHUA -- Led by senior quarterback Quade Coward, Cleburne scored early and often in a 58-21 victory over Joshua in a District 8-4A matchup Friday night at Owl Stadium.
The night couldn't have started any better for the Yellow Jackets as Coward threw a short swing pass to running back Kibo Grant, who took it 85 yards for a touchdown on Cleburne's first offensive play.
In the first half, Cleburne (3-2, 2-0 District 8-4A) had scoring drives of one play, nine plays, two plays, one play, and six plays as the Jackets outgained Joshua 354 yards to 180.
Coward finished 14 of 23 passing for 344 yards, six touchdowns and no interceptions. He added 36 rushing yards.
"It's a big win for us," Cleburne coach Jeff Merket said.
"They call them trap games and we didn't want to get caught in that. We played well throughout the game."
Colin Radford led Joshua (2-3, 0-2) with 97 yards and a touchdown on 15 carries.
