FW Carter-Riverside eases by FW Polytechnic

A

Fort Worth Carter-Riverside evened its District 6-4A record with an 18-6 victory over Fort Worth Polytechnic on Friday night at Handley Field.

The game started with a flurry when Polytechnic's DeThaniel Jones returned the opening kickoff 65 yards to take a 6-0 lead.

This would be all that the Parrots (0-5, 0-3) could get against the Eagles (2-4, 2-2).

Carter-Riverside scored late in the first quarter on a 16-yard field goal by Alexis Flores, then followed it with a 33-yard pass from Vincent Luna to Fred Pitts for a touchdown.

Luna ran for 111 yards on 23 carries.

Carter-Riverside was penalized 12 times, including five consecutive possessions in which it would stall after a penalty of 10 or more yards.

Polytechnic kept it close going into the fourth quarter behind a running game from Jones, who finished with 38 yards rushing.

The Parrots stopped the Eagles on fourth down to get the ball back with just three minutes remaining but could not convert a fourth-and-long.
