NORTH RICHLAND HILLS -- Travis Danford wanted to make sure of one thing his senior season -- that he beat long-time rival Richland.
Danford saw to that with a hand in six of Haltom's seven scores in the Buffalos' 49-6 rout of the Rebels in a District 4-5A game Friday at Birdville Fine Arts/Athletics Complex.
He rushed 19 times for 179 yards and four touchdowns and completed four of seven passes for 80 yards and two TDs as Haltom amassed 487 total yards. Haltom (2-3, 1-1) ran 50 times for 407 yards.
Richland (1-4, 0-2) scored on its first drive, a 14-yard run by Ken'Travious Richardson. That 68-yard march led to little, as the Rebels had 215 total yards and trailed 28-6 at halftime.
Richardson led Richland with 159 yards on 20 carries.
Danford had TD runs of 45 and 33 yards and two 1-yarders, all in the first half. His TD passes to Roman Gordon (5 and 57 yards) put the game out of reach.
Haltom's Shaun Barnard ran a fake punt 14 yards on the Buffs' first possession to keep a 13-play, 63-yard drive going. Danford's running led to a 7-0 lead.
Leading 7-6, Haltom went 76 yards in eight plays, with Danford's 45-yard score on fourth-and-1 giving the Buffalos a 14-6 lead.
After a three-and-out for Richland, Danford's 33-yard TD run capped a short two-play drive.
