NORTH RICHLAND HILLS -- Birdville's defense scored two touchdowns before the offense took the field.
The Hawks' offense did its part, too, amassing 534 total yards.
The two combined for a 70-0 victory over Fort Worth North Side in a District 6-4A game Thursday night at the Birdville Fine Arts/Athletic Complex.
Birdville (6-0, 4-0) scored two quick touchdowns, the first when Steven Nelson returned a blocked punt 15 yards for a touchdown.
The second came on a 30-yard fumble return by Samuel Gooch.
Birdville scored on its first possession when Justin Martin connected with Collin Basinger on a 25-yard touchdown pass.
Martin passed for 414 yards and four touchdowns. He also ran for another score.
The quarterback connected with Samuel Northey on a 26-yard touchdown pass as the Hawks took a 28-0 lead heading into the second quarter.
Martin connected with Basinger on a 27-yard touchdown pass, then tossed an 11-yard touchdown pass to Jake Bransford. The quarterback's night was finished when he scored on a 5-yard run, giving the Hawks a 49-0 lead going into halftime.
Backup quarterback Ty Engelhardt enjoyed the same success in the second half.
He scored on a 9-yard run in the third quarter and connected on two touchdown passes to Will Hayward in the fourth quarter. The first covered 24 yards and the second 25 yards.
Basinger and Hayward combined for six receptions for 169 yards.
North Side falls to 0-6 for the season and 0-4 in district.
