Quarterback helps Aledo roll past South Hills

A

Aledo's rush-hour trip to the East Loop proved much more taxing than Game 2 of the District 7-4A season.

Senior quarterback Pate Davis had three passing touchdowns and two rushing, including a 61-yard dash that gave the Bearcats a three-touchdown lead in a 49-0 victory over Fort Worth South Hills on Thursday night at Scarborough-Handley Field.

Running back Jess Anders rushed for 140 yards on 12 carries, and his 33-yard pass reception was key in setting up Aledo's second touchdown. Jordan Mittie returned a fumble 85 yards for a touchdown.

Aledo improved to 4-1 overall and 2-0 in district. The Scorpions fell to 2-3 and 0-2.

Aledo will host Fort Worth Wyatt on Oct. 12. South Hills next meets Fort Worth peer Trimble Tech on the same day at Farrington Field.

Davis had touchdown passes of 15, 45 and 35 yards to John Whatley, Willie Gibson and Matthew Hawkins.

The Bearcats encountered little to no resistance in rolling to a 28-0 first-half lead.

Davis finished Aledo's first possession with a 15-yard touchdown pass to tight end John Whatley, capping a 90-yard drive.

Aledo needed six plays on its next possession to cover 87 yards and a 13-0 lead when the Bearcats quarterback found Gibson, a wide receiver, for a 45-yard pass, catch and run.

Anders' 33-yard catch and run up the sideline put Aledo in position.

Pate's 9-yard run, his second of the game, and Chance Nevarez's successful point-after attempt put Aledo in command.

Defensively, Aledo held South Hills to 133 total yards, including 61 in the first two quarters.
