ARLINGTON -- Interim school Superintendent Marcelo Cavazos came one step closer Thursday night to getting the job permanently.

The Arlington school board extended an invitation to Cavazos to interview for the superintendent position during an executive session.

The interview will be conducted later this month after its official date and time are posted in compliance with the Texas Open Meetings Act.

"Once the interview is conducted, the board will move swiftly in its decision," said the district's announcement, which was placed on its website.

A public job posting of the Arlington superintendent position will be made as required by the Texas Education Code.

It is not known if any other candidates are to be interviewed by the board.

Cavazos was deputy superintendent until Superintendent Jerry McCullough departed in June. McCullough's contract runs through the end of the year .
