Oil independence

I've been hearing a lot of talk from the Republicans about producing oil and gas in the U.S., Canada and Mexico so that we will become self-sufficient.

I love the idea of being able to get away from purchasing oil and natural gas from other continents. If we produce as much oil and gas as we can use in this country, there is one problem with that.

Recently, oil has averaged about $100 a barrel. Say we produce oil at $50 a barrel. Do you really believe that oil will be sold for $50 a barrel? The same will be true for natural gas.

Romney and his people know that it sounds great to say we can be energy self-sufficient; they also know it won't happen.

Do you really believe this will bring down the cost of gasoline and natural gas?
