After four years on the campaign trail, Roger Williams is finally on the ballot.

Only those voters in Burleson, Johnson County and southward will find Williams' name, but he brings a lifetime of Fort Worth and Tarrant County leadership to the campaign for U.S. House District 25.

Technically, Williams is an Austin Republican and lives in a redrawn district that stretches from Burleson south through west Austin and the Hill Country.

But for all his 63 years, Williams has been a TCU Horned Frogs coach and fan, a Fort Worth leader and a Tarrant and Parker county car dealer.

Williams' experience in business, as a fundraiser for former President George W. Bush and as Texas Secretary of State have prepared him for Congress. He defeated 11 primary opponents by pushing his message as a champion for free enterprise.

In an election where some Republicans have divided voters sourly into "makers" and "takers," Williams has stuck to a more positive, Reaganesque spirit of success and prosperity for all.

Williams first considered running for Kay Bailey Hutchison's U.S. Senate seat. He then targeted a newly drawn U.S. House District 33 until courts redrew those lines.

District 25 is a better fit for him.

The Democratic candidate, retiree Elaine Henderson of Lago Vista, is a former schoolteacher and flight school owner in Houston.

The Star-Telegram Editorial Board recommends Roger Williams for U.S. House District 25.
