Mansfield running back tears ACL, out for the season

A

Mansfield coach Jeff Hulme confirmed Tuesday that senior running back Kenneth Burks tore the ACL (anterior cruciate ligament) in his right knee in a 36-20 loss to Mansfield Timberview last week and will miss the rest of the season.

Burks, who rushed for 1,873 yards and 23 touchdowns in 2011, was well on his way to another stellar season with 907 rushing yards and nine scores through five games.

"The thing that breaks your heart is that he's a great kid, he worked so hard in the summer and did everything we asked him to do," Hulme said. "He put his heart and soul into it and now this comes along."
