Kenny Marchant, 61, a four-term Republican congressman from Coppell, is a staunch conservative, a loyal party-line voter on most key issues and an extremely popular elected official in District 24, covering a wide swath of Northeast Tarrant, southern Denton and western Dallas counties.

His popularity is based on long public service, including as Carrollton city councilman and mayor and nine terms in the Texas House of Representatives.

He was chairman of the House Republican Caucus in 2003 when the Legislature redrew congressional district boundaries, including a district aligned to his political strength.

Marchant is on the Ways and Means committee and its Social Security subcommittee and is a member of the House Tea Party Caucus and the Immigration Reform Caucus.

The Democratic candidate is Euless lawyer Tim Rusk.

Marchant's experience and district ties make him a strong choice.

The Star-Telegram Editorial Board recommends Kenny Marchant for U.S. House District 24.
