When the Navy commissioned the USS Fort Worth in Galveston recently, U.S. Rep. Kay Granger was on hand to give the order, "Man your ship and bring her to life" -- an appropriate honor considering she led the campaign to get a ship named for the city.
Although the ship naming was a significant accomplishment and a tribute to the area, Granger's service in Congress has meant a lot more than symbolic achievements for the district she serves and for the national defense. After 15 years representing District 12 in the House, the Republican congresswoman is well-positioned as a member of the House Appropriations Committee and the Defense, Homeland Security and Military Construction/Veterans Affairs Subcommittees, fighting for defense projects in her home district and persuading the Air Force -- for now -- not to proceed with plans to transfer a fleet of C-130 Hercules Aircraft to Great Falls, Mont., from their base in Fort WorthHer Democratic opponent, former schoolteacher Dave Robinson of Fort Worth, calls her an "obstructionist" because in the past four years some of her more important votes have been "nay," firmly against programs of the Obama administration. She's proud of that record, but she also knows unrelenting partisanship doesn't solve problems. The Star-Telegram Editorial Board recommends Kay Granger for U.S. House District 12.Have more to add?
