Turnovers in the red zone remained a problem for TCU Saturday, but again the Horned Frogs shook off the struggles thanks to a stingy defense.

No. 17 TCU (3-0) defeated Virginia (2-2) 27-7 in front of 46,330 at Amon G. Carter Stadium. Casey Pachall threw touchdown passes to Brandon Carter and Josh Boyce to give the Frogs a 14-0 lead at the half, and Jaden Oberkrom hit fields goals of 46 and 47 yards in the third quarter.

TCU's defense has allowed just thirteen points -- two field goals at Kansas last week and a late touchdown by Virginia -- in three games this season. Kenny Cain had two interceptions and recovered a fumble to help set up TCU scores. A five-yard touchdown pass from Phillip Sims to E.J. Scott was the first touchdown allowed by TCU since the Poinsettia Bowl last December.

But the Frogs' offense squandered more scoring opportunities that would have helped blow the game open. Last week, four fumbles, including three inside the 10-yard line, kept the Frogs out of the end zone and helped keep the score close. Against Virginia, Pachall threw an interception at the 3 and Skye Dawson fumbled out of the back of the end zone for a touchback at the 2. TCU gave Kansas a touchback with a goal-line fumble by Pachall.

TCU added a final touchdown with a 17-yard catch by LaDarius Brown with 1:20 remaining.
