On a quiet night in July, police say, Tara Mauney of Colleyville and eight middle school students went shopping for three 36-roll packages of toilet paper at the Walmart in Bedford.

Mauney and the juveniles even took time for a group photo inside the store.

The 41-year-old mother then led the students through a series of juvenile pranks on Colleyville residences -- including writing graffiti on outside walls and placing raw chicken in a mailbox -- that caused almost $6,000 worth of damage to one home, according to an arrest warrant affidavit for Mauney obtained Monday by the Star-Telegram. She was arrested several days after the incident and charged with criminal mischief between $1,500 and $20,000.

Mauney, who is free on $7,500 bail, is scheduled for her first court appearance next week in Criminal District Court No. 4 in Fort Worth.

If convicted, Mauney faces a maximum of two years in jail and a $10,000 fine.

When reached Monday, Mauney declined to comment other than to say that "the kids have retracted some statements."

The Colleyville woman referred all other questions to one of her attorneys, Kelly Crawford of Dallas. He couldn't be reached Monday.

But Brian Willett of Bedford, another one of Mauney's attorneys, said he hopes to get Mauney to take a polygraph test.

"She was never at that place," Willett said Monday. "They are saying that she did the writing, but she wasn't there."

No juvenile has been charged, but the investigation is continuing, Colleyville police officer Raymon Cannon said Monday.

The affidavit gave this account of the case:

Homeowner Jodie Rishel called Colleyville police on the morning of July 25, saying her daughter had several classmates from Colleyville Middle School stay overnight.

At about 2 a.m., the girls were swimming in a backyard pool in the 4600 block of Alexandra Drive when they saw a male looking over a back fence. The girls got out of the pool, went to the front of the house and began chasing the male, and then also saw a group of people running away from the front yard.

The girls chased the group to a nearby home and watched as everyone except one -- Mauney -- went into a nearby house.

Mauney stopped in front of the house and asked, "Could I help you?"

One of the girls told Mauney, "You can clean up the mess you just made."

Colleyville police were called.

Upon arrival, an officer observed a large amount of toilet paper wrapped in the trees and shrubs at a house on Alexandra Drive.

According to the affidavit, the officer saw the two chicken halves in the mailbox and a toilet in a driveway with the words "suck it" written on it.

Someone used a black marker to write graffiti, including "whore house," "suck it," and "sluts" on outside walls. "Sluts" also was written on the driveway in mustard.

Peanut butter was smeared on pillars of the covered driveway.

Tampons and sanitary napkins covered in what appeared to be ketchup were left in the driveway and front yard, and some of red-smeared tampons also were stuck to the windows at the front of the house.

A witness told authorities that she saw Mauney and a group of juveniles shopping at the Bedford Walmart on the night of July 24. Security video from the store also showed that Mauney and juveniles were in the Walmart.

Colleyville police say they believe that Mauney and the juveniles placed toilet paper on a second home on the night of July 24 and early morning of July 25.

Two male juveniles have confessed to their involvement in the acts of criminal mischief, according to the affidavit.
