Students from high schools across Tarrant County have been named National Merit semifinalists in the 2013 National Merit Scholarship Program.

The high school seniors are among 16,000 semifinalists named by the National Merit Scholarship Corp. and now have the chance to earn 8,300 scholarships worth more than $32 million to be awarded in the spring.

About 90 percent of semifinalists become finalists, and more than half the finalists will earn scholarships.

The students are among about 1.5 million juniors who entered the scholarship program by taking the 2011 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.

Local semifinalists are listed by hometown, school and name.
