A 21-year-old Fort Worth man has been arrested in the shooting of a homeowner who had interrupted a burglary at his south Fort Worth home Tuesday morning.

Clevon Montego Emerson III had apparently been hiding in the area after fleeing the home and was flushed out by officers conducting searches, said robbery Sgt. Joe Loughman.

Emerson was detained for questioning and later booked into the Mansfield jail on suspicion of aggravated robbery. He remained held Wednesday with bail set at $25,000, jail records show.

Emerson is accused of shooting Ruben Rangel, 55, after Rangel arrived at his home in the 5800 block of Jennie Drive to find Emerson inside and gathering items to steal, police have said. Police have said that Emerson fired at least five times at Rangel, hitting the man twice.

Rangel remained hospitalized Wednesday in unknown condition.

Sharron Neal, a police spokeswoman, said police have not yet recovered the gun believed used in the shooting.
