IRVING -- Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones likes the new additions at cornerback in Brandon Carr and Morris Claiborne.

But he seems just as excited to see a familiar face back in the rotation in former starter Mike Jenkins, who missed training camp and the season opener because of off-season shoulder surgery.

Jenkins appears ready to play against Seattle on Sunday and Jones is eager to see how the Cowboys use him along with Carr, Claiborne and nickel back Orlando Scandrick.

"I'd obviously like to see him out there on all of our money packages, nickel, dime, all of that," Jones said his weekly radio show Tuesday on KRLD/105.3 FM.

"I hope that we can be as innovative as Rob [Ryan] indicated to me he wanted to be, and Jerome Henderson, our secondary coach. So hopefully we'll get to see a lot of Jenkins."

Jones said the former Pro Bowler looked as good as ever in practice Monday.

"He's impressive," Jones said. "... He moved around good [Monday]. Boy, you just don't lose it; you can see it when one of those top ones gets out there."

Salute to Modell

Jerry Jones attended the funeral of former Ravens and Browns owner Art Modell on Tuesday. Jones called into his radio show as his plane landed in the Baltimore area and shared his memories of Modell.

"He was such a great story teller and he really kept meetings that, more often than not became very tense, very contentious, moving with some of his great one-liners," Jones said.

"He could have been a Bob Hope in another time. He had that about him."

Jones said Modell's biggest contributions were in how he helped shape the league in 1960s and '70s.

"From the get-go, he understood the potential of our game, the NFL on television," Jones said. "He made a serious contribution in the fledgling years of Monday Night Football and some of the dynamics of what we did on Sunday afternoon, some of the programming decisions. He was quite a contributor. I thought a lot of him. He was always good to me."

Cochart released

The Cowboys almost released tight end Colin Cochart the day before the opener against the New York Giants once Jason Witten was cleared to play. They considered putting running back Lance Dunbar on the roster to return kicks, but didn't.

It didn't change Cochart's fate; he was released Tuesday. He was claimed off waivers after the final preseason cuts two weeks ago for depth purposes in case Witten was unable to go in the opener.

The Cowboys have yet to decide what roster move they'll make. They could add Dunbar or someone at another spot.

Jerry and the UFC?

Jerry Jones has hosted world championship boxing at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington. He is looking for the next big thing.

In sight is the potential blockbuster Ultimate Fighting Championship battle between superstar middleweight champion Anderson Silva and welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre.

"We want to have the big event," Jones said Tuesday on his radio show. "That's a goal and a dream of mine to have as a big of a sporting event when we can at Cowboys Stadium. I can assure you that I'm on the incentive plan to get them in there."

No date has been set for the mixed martial arts showdown, but UFC president Dana White said on UFC Tonight that "if it happens, it will probably happen in Dallas, Texas."

He was referring to Cowboys Stadium.
