IRVING -- Jason Garrett didn't have much to say to his team Monday, five days after their season-opening victory. His message was short and sweet.
"I probably was in there for 45 seconds," Garrett said. "I laid out the day and said, 'It's time to move on. The only thing that matters is what we do now.'"The Dallas Cowboys are 1-0 after their 24-17 victory over the defending Super Bowl champion New York Giants, but they are starting over. They know a loss to the Seattle Seahawks would sour the upset of the Giants.A victory, on the other hand, would give the Cowboys their first 2-0 start since 2008. And, with both games on the road, it would put the Cowboys in position to earn notice as a playoff contender."I really look at it as though we're just starting and that we should look at this as our opening game," Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said. "We had a unique off-season. We had unique time to get ready for the first game that we played. We played a lot of our preseason games in a stepped-up way. All of that was one thing. Well, we came through that. Jason has put together a staff and team that has responded well to where we are. Now, let's start the season."Dallas missed the playoffs each of the past two seasons in going 6-10 and 8-8 respectively. The Cowboys couldn't overcome a 1-7 start in 2010, that included the loss of quarterback Tony Romo in Week 6, and they began last year 2-3.The Cowboys seem to have bought into Garrett's mantra of one day at a time, one play at a time, one game at a time.After the Cowboys spent four days celebrating the win over the Giants, which included two off days, there was no mention of the Giants in the locker room Monday. It was all Seahawks all the time."We talked before the game, win, lose or draw, it's the first game of the season, and you've got 15 more games left," said Cowboys cornerback Brandon Carr, who was signed in free agency. "From there, enjoy it for the moment, get over it, and now it's time to go through Week 2 and the Seattle Seahawks. Now, the week is upon us. Now it's time to regroup, and everybody get their minds right."The Cowboys, who opened as three-point favorites over the Seahawks, have a lot of positives to build on. The defense held the Giants to 269 yards. Romo had a 129.5 passer rating, with 307 passing yards and three touchdowns. DeMarco Murray had 131 rushing yards, including 111 in the second half. Kevin Ogletree answered the call as the third receiver, with his first 100-yard game.Jones said the win at MetLife last week could rank as the team's most significant victory since a 24-17 victory over the Saints in New Orleans in 2009 if the Cowboys don't suffer a letdown."We've got to handle it in a way that is positive for our team. I think we will," Jones said. "... I think the fact that we've had a big game, we had it in some pretty challenging circumstances, and have that win will be very instrumental as far as building off of it."Charean Williams817-390-7760
