District 6-5A
Coach: Steve Lineweaver
Last season: 12-1 (7-0 in District 6-5A), lost to Arlington Martin 19-7 in regional semifinal
Key players: QB Matt Hawkins (5-9, 191); WR Ray Bolden (5-9, 152); TE Will Taylor (6-3, 255); WR/TE Jason Reese (6-5, 228); OL Salesi Uhatafe (6-5, 301); DE Gaius Vaenuku (6-5, 264); DE Samiuela Tevi ( 6-5, 271)
The big picture: Trinity, like just about every season, has a talented roster capable of reeling off a 16-0 championship run. The Trojans will be motivated by their early exit -- by Trinity standards -- in the playoffs last season. Trinity will use more of a balanced offensive attack this season instead of relying on the run, and everything starts on the offensive line. Uhatafe leads an imposing front that includes center Saia Mose (6-0, 295), Mosese Vakasiuola (6-1, 256), Lem Galeai (6-4, 299) and Andreu Kirby (6-3, 334). Vaenuku and Tevi will give the Trojans a dominant defensive front as well. Teams such as Colleyville Heritage should be able to challenge Trinity, but the Trojans are clearly a championship favorite.
Quotable: "I can't wait for the season. It's going to be great, and I have a good feeling about it. We're just going to play and let the game take care of itself. We aren't going to worry about the scoreboard. We are going to go out and play, everyone taking care of his assignments." -- QB Matt Hawkins
Notable: Trinity plays one of the most interesting nondistrict schedules in the area. The Trojans will square off against two out-of-state teams in the first two weeks before playing DeSoto in their third game. Trinity starts its season on Thursday in Seattle against Bellevue High School. Then it will host Union High School (Tulsa) at Pennington Field in Week 2.
