Kimball Art Museum

Claim to Fame: The Kimbell Art Museum, designed by Louis I. Kahn, is widely regarded as one of the outstanding architectural achievements of the modern era. The Kimbell At 40, which opens Oct. 7 and continues through Dec. 30, 2012, celebrates the 40th anniversary of the opening of the Museum on Oct. 4, 1972. The Kimbell's permanent collection includes masterpieces by artists ranging from Fra Angelico, Michelangelo, and Caravaggio to Cézanne and Matisse; Egyptian, Near Eastern, Greek, and Roman antiquities; and Asian, Mesoamerican, and African art.
