A Fort Worth woman has been indicted on a felony charge of tampering with evidence, accused of helping her boyfriend cover up the shooting death of a homeless man who had been working at her Arlington Heights home.

Lisa Minette Juran, 51, who counts among her relatives former Fort Worth Mayor H.G. Meacham and Amon G. Carter Sr.'s widow, Minnie Meacham Carter, was indicted Monday on the second-degree felony charge. She remains free on bail.

Her boyfriend, George Thurston, 55, was indicted on charges of murder and tampering with evidence in the death of Walter "James" Anders, 51, whose decomposing body was found May 30.

Anders' body had been wrapped in a sleeping bag and discarded in a semiwooded area near railroad tracks west of Eighth Avenue, police said.

Juran told police that Thurston asked her to help him carry something wrapped in blankets and a tarp that smelled "like something dead." She said she did not look inside but may have seen a shoe, according to investigators.

Anders, who frequented area homeless shelters, had been shot several times. He had been working at Juran's home and had spent the winter living in her garage, according to police.

Juran breeds and raises bucking bulls and goes to competitions with them. She told authorities that she met Anders and Thurston while doing volunteer work at the First Street Methodist Mission in Fort Worth.

If convicted, she could face up to 20 years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000.

In 1984, Thurston was convicted of armed burglary and sentenced to two years in prison. Since then, he has been convicted of an assortment of misdemeanors, including theft, driving while intoxicated, assaulting a relative, criminal trespass and criminal mischief.

Because he is a repeat offender, Thurston could face 15 years to life in prison and a $10,000 fine on the murder charge and five years to life on the tampering charge.
