A third neighbor of a disabled Grapevine man who was beaten and stabbed to death last week was in custody Tuesday, accused of being involved in the attack on the 59-year-old man, Grapevine police said.
Initially, Brion L. Wooden, 19, had told investigators that he became frightened and ran away when two other men entered the Grapevine apartment of Kenneth Alberts last week. Wooden had even told authorities that he had heard Alberts say "No Jerry" as he fled the scene. But Grapevine police said Tuesday that Wooden changed his story and confessed to walking into the apartment along with the other two men.Wooden was arrested Monday.Alberts was beaten with his walker and fatally stabbed on Aug.15 during a robbery at his apartment. Suspects stole a flat-screen television.Alberts' physical therapist found Alberts on the morning of Aug. 16 when she went to his apartment for treatment, police said. Some time after the attack, the suspects tried to sell the television in the neighborhood of the Lakes at Williamsberg in the 2900 block of Mustang Drive in Grapevine. On Sunday, police arrested Jerry Temple, 32, and Deron Hall, 21, also neighbors of Alberts.Investigators believe Temple went into Alberts' apartment on the pretense that he wanted to borrow money for beer, but instead he stabbed Alberts, according to arrest warrant affidavits. Hall and Wood also were in the apartment, police said.Domingo Ramirez Jr., 817-390-7763Twitter: @mingoramirezjrHave more to add? News tip? Tell us
