Heavy rainfall late Saturday afternoon prompted the National Weather Service office in Fort Worth to issue a flash flood warning for southern Tarrant County.

At one point Saturday afternoon, a rainfall rate of an inch per hour was detected over downtown Fort Worth, an earlier advisory stated.

With additional thunderstorms expected moving into the county from the west and northwest, the advisory for urban and small stream flooding was in effect until 7:45 p.m. But around 6:40 a.m., the weather service upgraded to the flash flood warning.

Weather service radar at 8 p.m. indicated rainfall totals of from one to three inches for most of Tarrant County.

Dallas-Fort Worth Airport, the official reporting station for North Texas, had recorded .85 inches of rain between 5 and 8 p.m. Arlington Municipal Airport had record 1.49 inches during the same period.

The weather service forecast called for a 60 percent chance of rain through the evening, decreasing to 40 percent early Sunday into midday.

Temperatures are expected to climb from a low Sunday morning in the mid-70s to an afternoon high in the upper 80s.
