FORT WORTH -- Voters in the Northwest school district will decide Nov. 6 whether to approve the sale of $255 million in bonds to pay for improvements including construction of a new high school and middle school in the north Fort Worth/Haslet area.

The Northwest school board voted to call the election at its meeting Monday night.

If approved, the package would require a tax rate increase of 7.75 cents per $100 of assessed property value, school administrators said.

The bond proposal includes:

Facilities and programs for an additional 4,000 students, including construction of a high school and a middle school on 137 acres bought by the district in 2008.

Technology updates.

Safety and security improvements.

Program enhancements and classroom space for math, science and environmental studies.

Major building component replacements such as air-conditioning systems, flooring and roofing.

Building additions at schools.

The district's student population is projected to increase by 5,800 by the 2017-18 school year. The district now has 27 campuses in three counties.
