Six lifeguards participating in a routine training exercise at Six Flags Hurricane Harbor late Thursday were taken to a hospital after they were injured during "inappropriate horseplay" on the Tornado ride, a park official said.

The injuries occurred about 10 p.m. and park medical staff and local paramedics were immediately called to the scene, said park spokeswoman Sharon Parker in a short emailed statement.

The employees were then taken to a local hospital where they were treated for mild injuries and released, she said.

"An investigation is under way into the actions of the employees and the appropriate corrective action will be taken," the statement said. "The safety of our employees and guests is our number one priority -- and the primary focus of our training and operating procedures."

Park officials will have no further comment, Parker said.
