Hope is headed to her new home.

Parker County officials said that the dog, found July 9 with her snout taped shut and her tongue protruding, was released from an animal clinic to her new owners Tuesday afternoon.

Her snout wrapped with electrical tape, Hope was unable to drink, eat or pant for more than 24 hours after she was found, authorities said.

But she survived.

A $35,000 reward has been offered for the arrest and indictment of whoever tortured her.

Authorities said the dog, named Hope by officials, was released to the care of Charlie and Kit Moncrief, on whose ranch the pug mix was found.

Hope was being treated at the Bowie Drive Animal Hospital in Weatherford.

Just weeks later in Kaufman County, another dog with her mouth taped shut was found dead.

The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals of Texas posted a $5,000 reward after the female pit bull mix was found July 27.

The reward is for the arrest and conviction of whoever taped the dog's mouth.

The dog's body was taken to the SPCA of Texas' Jan Rees-Jones Animal Care Center in Dallas.

Kaufman County authorities have provided no other details.

The SPCA of Texas points out that animal cruelty is often an early warning sign of violent tendencies that will be acted out against people. Childhood cruelty to animals has been linked to later anti-social and aggressive behavior.
