Decomposing remains that are believed to be human were discovered Thursday afternoon in a field in far northwest Tarrant County near Eagle Mountain Lake

A woman called 911 shortly before 5:30 p.m. to report that she had found the remains south of the 5400 block of Crest Drive, said Terry Grisham, a sheriff's spokesman, in an email. After examining the remains, Sheriff's investigators and forensic analysts determined that they were "likely human."

Officers were at the scene collected evidence until midnight, he said.

The Tarrant County medical examiner is working to identify the remains and determine the cause and manner of death, he said. Investigators are reviewing missing person reports.
