Texas high school coaches head for San Antonio

Posted Saturday, Jul. 28, 2012

Lanny Trammell is ready to greet old friends and find a few deals.

The veteran Fort Worth Southwest football coach is headed to San Antonio for the Texas High School Coaches Association's 80th annual convention.

"This is my 37th year in coaching," Trammell said. "I expect to see coaches I went to college with, make contacts with sporting goods vendors, and attend some coaching lectures."

It's the best way to stay current in his chosen profession.

"Attending coaching school is one of the highlights of the year," he added.

More than 500 vendors have booked 795 booths at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center.

San Antonio Convention and Visitors Bureau officials expect 13,000 attendees, with an economic impact of $15.4 million to the Alamo City.

Last year's convention in Fort Worth was among the city's top five conventions.

The San Antonio event is second only to 26,000 for the Texas music educators.

Coaches school returns to Fort Worth in 2013.
